What are skin boosters?

  • 4 min read

Before we get started with all things skin boosters, we wanted to take a moment to remind you that your skin is wonderful as it is, and doesn't need changing – or injecting – to make it ‘better’.

Your skin does a hugely important job of protecting you from the world we live in. Any signs of ageing are signs of a life well-lived and should be celebrated, rather than disliked and changed.

If you aren’t at the stage of celebrating your skin, consider adopting a more skin-neutral attitude, where you can respect it for the important role it plays in keeping you healthy, as your largest organ.

With that reminder in the forefront of our minds, it’s time to dive into the world of skin boosters.

What are skin boosters?

Skin boosters are injectable substances designed to improve the skin’s texture and appearance. Hyaluronic acid, a popular active ingredient used in skincare, is used as a skin booster in order to improve the elasticity of the skin, provide a hit of hydration and among other things, make the skin appear firmer.

A natural substance that your skin produces on its own, hyaluronic acid is a hero ingredient when it comes to achieving deeply moisturised and nourished skin. With the ability to hold over a thousand times its own weight in water, it’s no wonder why hyaluronic acid is used in skin boosters.

Injectable skin boosters are an aesthetic treatment that some people choose to have to target their skin concerns. Providing intense hydration deep moisture for the skin, this treatment is often used to target fine lines and wrinkles.

Often used as an alternative to traditional anti-wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers, skin boosters have become a popular choice for people wanting rejuvenated skin.

Skin booster benefits

The benefits you can expect to see from skin boosters depend on the exact ingredients used in them. However, as most skin booster treatments use hyaluronic acid – and they all have similar purposes for the skin – there are some universal skin booster benefits.

1. Deeply hydrates the skin

Skin boosters provide your skin with a hit of hydration that it might be lacking. Deeply nourishing the skin with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, skin boosters not only add moisture, but also help the skin to retain moisture.

2. Improved skin elasticity

While elastin is essential for skin elasticity, so is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid helps to firm out the contours of the skin and works with elastin to improve the elasticity of the skin.

3. Strengthened skin barrier

This treatment can help to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, which protects the skin from damage caused by free radicals and other environmental stressors and toxins.

4. Radiant complexion

Hydrated skin is essential for achieving glowing skin that feels great as well as looks great. As skin boosters offer your skin deep hydration, you can expect gorgeously glowing skin and a radiant complexion.

5. Smoother skin texture

As hyaluronic acid helps to plump the skin, skin boosters can promote a smoother skin texture. With added hydration, the skin’s texture will improve.

Skin boosters can be a safe treatment, but only if they are administered by a trained professional. It’s important to remember that this treatment involves needles and injecting the skin, so ensure you go to a trained aesthetician for this treatment.

Skin booster natural alternatives

If you want the benefits of skin boosters without the needles, an alternative to using injectable skin boosters is to ensure that your skincare routine is packed full of the skin-loving ingredients you feel you’re lacking – such as the fan-favourite hyaluronic acid.

By using natural skincare products which nourish and hydrate your skin daily (and nightly) you can easily avoid an expensive – and sometimes painful – trip to the aesthetician.

We’ve brought together some of our products which contain hyaluronic acid, usually used in skin boosters, and help to improve the appearance and texture of the skin.

Hydrating face toner

Our fan-favourite Face Toner with Hyaluronic Acid helps to give you the hit of moisture your skin needs. Refreshing and uplifting, this toner helps to balance and protect the skin.

Use this toner after cleansing your skin with a gentle face cleanser to remove any traces of makeup, dirt and impurities. We always suggest double cleansing to remove deeper layers of bacteria and congestion from the skin.

Enriched with hyaluronic acid to plump and hydrate the skin, this toner is vegan and cruelty free. Chamomile extract soothes the skin, and BHA salicylic acid helps to clear the skin and prevent breakouts.

Upcycled biologically active mandarin fruit water in this toner also helps to keep the skin protected against inflammation. Reap the benefits of hyaluronic acid as well as mandarin fruit water, salicylic acid and chamomile extract with this rejuvenating toner.

Eye cream with caffeine

Plastic negative, our Eye Cream with Hyaluronic Acid & Coffee works to minimise the appearance of dark circles and also plump fine lines. Dermatologically approved, this eye cream targets similar areas as skin boosters – without the pinch!

Formulated with repurposed coffee oil, which is rich in skin-brightening caffeine, dab gently under and around the eyes after spritzing your toner. Hyaluronic acid helps to plump the skin, cucumber extract soothes the skin and tired eyes, and upcycled maple bark extract boosts collagen production.

Night cream with niacinamide

After applying eye cream, gently massage our Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide into the skin. Formulated with repurposed blueberry extract, a natural source of pro-retinol, this unscented moisturiser is suitable for all skin types.

Working to replenish the skin’s natural protective barrier, rosehip oil helps to hydrate the skin and promote skin regeneration. Hyaluronic acid works to plump the skin, as shea butter and jojoba oil intensely nourishes the skin.

Niacinamide helps to replenish the natural skin barrier, aiding the skin in better protecting itself against breakouts and moisture loss.
