Your ultimate guide to sculpted skin

  • 5 min read

Sculpted skin is one of the latest trends sweeping across the beauty industry, with people hailing skin sculpting for their defined features. At home face sculpting is becoming more popular, as people forgo the cosmetic treatments for a natural touch.

Before we begin, we urge everyone to embrace their skin and appreciate it for the job it does to protect you from the outside world. Bumps, texture and pigmentation are all completely normal and not something that you need to change.

Saying this, if following the principles of skin sculpting help you feel confident and happy in your skin – and it’s something you want to do – then go for it!

What is skin sculpting?

Skin sculpting is the process of trying to achieve a more defined – or sculpted – face shape. This often focuses on areas of the face such as the jaw and the cheekbones. Some cosmetics clinics offer ‘skin sculpting’ treatments, but at UpCircle, we always believe the natural way is best!

Discover how to sculpt your skin naturally and what products and tools to add into your routine for a more defined face.

How to get a more defined face

If you’re interested in discovering whether skin and face sculpting will work for you and help increase your confidence, there’s a few key principles you should be aware of. It’s not all about what you put on your face, but also how you care for your skin from within.

1. Stay hydrated and rested

Staying hydrated not only helps to improve your health overall, but it also helps to keep your skin hydrated too. Drinking enough water – aim for six to eight glasses per day – helps to plump the skin and flush out toxins, which can make the skin appear dull.

Resting is also an incredibly important aspect of looking after your skin and achieving a more defined face. While we sleep, our bodies work to regenerate and repair our skin cells, and also produce collagen. Reducing inflammation, resting helps to sculpt the skin and define the face structure.

2. Focus on collagen

If you’re seasoned in the skincare world, chances are you’ve heard of collagen and how important it is for the skin. Collagen is produced in the body naturally and is the most abundant protein in mammals.

Collagen plays an essential role in maintaining the elasticity and strength of the skin. It provides the skin with the structural support it needs – with skin low in collagen tending to have more fine lines and wrinkles. Collagen production naturally decreases as we age, so including collagen-rich products in your skincare routine is a great way to give your skin the boost it needs.

3. Use skin sculpting tools and facial massage tools

Facial massage tools such as eye rollers and gua sha also double as great skin sculpting tools. The trick here is consistency – if you want sculpted skin, adding facial massage tools into your existing skincare routine is a great place to start.

Take care to use tools such as gua sha and eye rollers gently, so as not to damage the skin by using too much force. We’ve broken down the most common sculpted skin tools for a more defined face:

  • Under eye roller – a ball shaped tool with a handle that allows you to gently reach and massage the full eye area.
  • Gua sha – a smooth notched stone that is used to massage the skin across your face and neck.
  • Facial roller – often has a smooth and cool surface allowing you to gently massage the skin on your face and neck.

Natural face sculpting routine with UpCircle

1. Cleanse away any impurities

Before we can get started with sculpting skin care, it’s essential to take off the day with a gentle cleanser. Our Cleansing Face Balm with Vitamin E and Oat Oil is perfect for gently removing makeup, pollution and impurities, leaving deeply cleansed, soothed and hydrated skin.

2. Double cleanse using a water based cleanser

It is important to go in with a second cleanse using a water-based cleanser like our Cleansing Face Milk to get rid of any remaining dirt and oils you might not necessarily might not see with the naked eye.

3. Spritz some hydrating toner

Using a hydrating toner is an easy way to add that boost of moisture your skin might be lacking. Our Face Toner with Hyaluronic Acid helps to refresh and plump the skin.

This vegan spray toner is made with the anti-inflammatory residual water of green mandarin fruit, a by-product of the juicing industry; and skin-soothing chamomile stem extract, a by-product of the tea industry.

4. Apply eye cream with an eye roller

Choose an eye cream that is both intensely nourishing and also helps to lock in moisture. Our Eye Cream with Hyaluronic Acid and Coffee is formulated with upcycled anti-inflammatory maple bark extract, a by-product of the wood industry. This helps to boost collagen production in the skin and protect the natural skin barrier

Dab a small amount under the eyes and use a Soothing Eye Roller to massage this around the full eye area for deeper absorption. Not only does an under eye roller help your skincare products be absorbed better by the skin, but it also helps to boost circulation for a healthy, bright glow while improving skin tone, texture and facial tension.

Top tip – store your eye roller in the fridge for a delightfully cooling effect.

5. Use a nourishing moisturiser

Give your skin a boost with a deeply nourishing moisturiser, formulated with skin-loving ingredients. In the mornings, use our Face Moisturiser with Vitamin E to brighten the skin and lock in moisture.

In the evenings, opt for our Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide to nourish, repair and protect the skin. Rosehip oil in the product helps to promote overnight skin regeneration, and upcycled blueberries, a vitamin A rich source of pro-retinol, work to minimise the signs of ageing skin by stimulating collagen production.

6. Finish with some serum and a gua sha facial massage

Using a few drops of our Organic Face Serum with Coffee Oil on the skin before using a gua sha tool can help it glide across the skin. Opt for a Sustainable Gua Sha Stone and use it to gently scrape across your skin, following the natural contours.

If you want a full gua sha facial massage routine, we’ve dedicated an entire blog post to the benefits of using a gua sha as well as a simple routine to follow.
